Alden are sized in US sizing as opposed to C&J which is in UK. The general rule is that your US size is one whole size larger than your UK size, e.g. I wear a 10 US, but 9UK. Width is also measured differently, the standard C&J width is marked ‘E’ but this translates to an American ‘D’. This is further complicated by the fact that Alden lasts fit differently. The best way to know your US size is to get your foot length and width properly measured on a Brannock device that measures your US size.
